Breakthrough in Breast Cancer Detection for Women with Dense Breasts!
Breast density is a crucial factor in breast cancer detection. Dense breast tissue not only increases cancer risk but also reduces the sensitivity of mammography. Up to 50% of women have dense breasts, highlighting the need for advanced imaging solutions.
A recent study conducted by Universitätsklinikum Erlangen compared breast cancer detection using dedicated breast CT (non-contrast and contrast-enhanced) with mammography, focusing on the impact of breast density.
Results showed that contrast-enhanced breast CT had higher detectability and diagnostic confidence across all breast densities compared to mammography, while contrast-enhanced breast CT performed better than non-contrast breast CT, especially with higher breast density. This could be a game-changer for early breast cancer detection and personalized examination strategies, especially for women with dense breast tissue.
