The world has lost one of its most impactful figures in diagnostic imaging, and a man whose influence extended far beyond his scientific contributions. Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Willi Kalender, innovator of nu:view Breast CT and founder of AB-CT, passed away on October 21st, 2024, at the age of 75.
Willi Kalender was best known for his groundbreaking development of spiral or helical CT. This innovation dramatically enhanced the speed, accuracy, and safety of CT scans, setting new global standards for medical diagnostics. His contributions extended to improving image reconstruction algorithms, reducing radiation exposure, and advancing 3D imaging techniques—making CT scans safer and more accessible for patients around the world.
In recent years, Willi focused on the development of nu:view Breast CT, a 3D imaging technology designed to offer a more precise and safer alternative to traditional methods without the discomfort of breast compression. Kalender was deeply committed to this project. His vision for improving women’s healthcare continues to advance, and his work will have a lasting impact for generations to come.
The world has lost not only a great innovator but a true luminary whose warmth, kindness, and humor were as impactful as his scientific contributions.
